Ali Bhai

Metal Art

Copper bells from Nirona, a small village in the Kutch district of Gujarat, India, are renowned for their unique craftsmanship and sound. These bells are handcrafted by artisans, and one such artisan is Alibhai, who has been continuing the traditional art of bell-making.

Each bell is made entirely by hand, using copper and other metals, without the aid of molds or modern machinery. The process involves shaping the metal, then coating it with copper. The bells are heated in a kiln, and then fine-tuned to produce a distinct sound. Because of the individual craftsmanship involved, each bell produces a unique tone, giving it a special character that cannot be replicated.Alibhai’s expertise and dedication to this craft are part of the rich cultural heritage of the region, and these bells are often used in temples, for livestock, or as decorative items.

The unique sound of each bell has made them popular not only in India but internationally as well. This ancient craft is passed down through generations, and artisans like Alibhai continue to preserve this heritage. These copper bells are not just a functional product but are also considered a symbol of tradition, artistry, and musical craftsmanship
